Principal Applications Engineer

Responsibilities

Position will lead the design, configuration, and deployment for a Web-based application suite of software tools for use in vehicle diagnostic and fleet management applications. Candidate will provide technical direction for application development environment and database design.  Manage application and database security from accidental or intentional loss or damage. Manage the operations and maintenance for these systems once deployed and provide technical leadership.  Apply software development and systems management skills in the analysis of requirements, systems and application architecture design, database design, technology assessment, security, systems migration and transition planning, and risk assessment and management. Formulate procedures and standards related to database management and monitor transaction activity and utilization. Develop stored procedures and optimize code for performance. Provide Web application support to the client, using ColdFusion MX, XML, JavaScript, and CSS as needed. Maintain and enhance existing Web-based applications and lead the development for a fast-paced Web-development environment.

Qualifications

BSCE or equivalent required. MSCE preferred.  Extensive experience with both commercial automotive and military design considerations for diagnostic data storage and display applications strongly preferred. Experience with portal technologies preferred.  Experience with developing and formulating standards, procedures, and conventions for applications preferred.  Experience in managing data from vehicle tracking solutions to include GPS, wireless communications (802.11, Cellular, satellite), vehicle networks (CAN, J1708, SCI, J1850, etc), networking communications (RS232, RS422, RS485), and sensors (Analog, digital) is strongly preferred.  Ability to work as a self-starter with minimal supervision.  Ability to work cooperatively with others and to work under pressure of deadlines and customer requirements.  Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.  7 years of experience with real time web based application design and development. Coldfusion and MS SQL Server required.  Java, VB, .NET and PERL preferred. Ability to travel by air and/or motor vehicle as needed.
